EEO is a global provider of professional online education live streaming services. Its flagship product, ClassIn, is an online classroom solution designed for educational scenarios, serving over 20 million users across 150+ countries and collaborating with 60,000+ partner schools.

Following a recent upgrade, ClassIn launched an integrated LMS that combines online classroom functionality with teaching management features — including lesson preparation, assignment distribution, discussions, teaching evaluations, and learning analytics.

📌 Role Overview

At EEO, reporting to the Head of Learning Design, I provided instructional guidance for the company's internal L&D training program (LearnIn) — focusing on lesson planning and course design — and led monthly training sessions for the entire product department. I also leveraged my teaching experience and product insights to propose AI-powered feature designs for ClassIn, collaborating with R&D on emerging AI applications in learning.

🎯 Key Initiatives & Outcomes

1. LearnIn – Internal L&D Training Program (Pre-Launch Design)

Note: I contributed to the instructional design of this program prior to my departure. The program was not launched, and my role focused on lesson planning and course structure.

Program Overview:

  • The company's first large-scale internal training initiative

  • Aimed to enhance employees' understanding of company products, improve business capabilities, and build a learning organization

My Role:

  • Provided instructional guidance for LMS-based teaching

  • Focused on lesson planning and course structure design

  • Helped design how courses would link to job competency requirements

  • Supported the HR onboarding program from an online learning design perspective

📌 My work on LearnIn established a foundation for the program's instructional approach, including competency-linked course maps and lesson structures.

2. Product Department Training – Monthly Sessions

I led the monthly training sessions for the entire product department, reaching approximately 200 participants (both online and offline).

Purpose:

  • Enhance the product team's professional capabilities in EdTech and AI

  • An integral part of the company's internal training efforts

Topics Covered:

  • Educational technology trends (EdTech)

  • AI-powered learning applications

  • Product and pedagogical best practices

📌 This ongoing training helped bridge the gap between product development and instructional design, ensuring the product team understood how their work impacted learners.

3. AI-Powered Learning – Feature Design (Pre-Launch)

At EEO, as AI technology was emerging in China, I focused on its educational applications. I collaborated with product team on AI features that were in development (not yet launched).

My Role:

  • Leveraged my teaching experience and product insights to propose AI-integrated feature designs

  • Participated in testing

  • Contributed to the design of three AI feature areas:

📌 These features were in R&D during my time at EEO. My contribution was in the design and conceptualization phase, working alongside product team to ensure pedagogical soundness.

🧠 Reflection: Designing at the Product Level

What I learned:

  • Instructional designers belong in product discussions: When I proposed AI features like knowledge hierarchy and Q&A systems, I was bringing pedagogical expertise to R&D. IDs understand how learners actually use tools, and that insight is valuable even before features are built.

  • Training the product team multiplies impact: By leading monthly EdTech/AI training for ~50 product team members, I helped the entire department think more pedagogically about their work. That impact scales beyond any single course.

How this shapes my ID philosophy today:

I now believe that instructional designers should sit at the intersection of pedagogy, product, and technology. We are not just consumers of learning tools — we should be co-designers of those tools.
